Frequently Asked Questions

How soon can I make my reservation?

This depends on the type of reservation you are trying to make: Frontcountry campsite reservations are accepted on a rolling four month window. Reservations are accepted a maximum of four calendar months before the desired arrival date. This means that reservations for stays arriving on July 25 may not be made prior to March 25. Similarly, reservations for stays arriving on September 2, may not be made until May 2 and reservations for arrival in August may not be made until the same date in April. The reservation window advances and reservations can be made at 7:00a.m. (Pacific Time) daily. For more information about when individual parks accept reservations, select the 'More Info' link after selecting the park. Group Campsite reservations and Group Picnic Area reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance. This means you can reserve for Aug 24 on Aug 24 of the previous year. Reservations for the Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit and the Berg Lake Trail are accepted for the following season starting on October 1.

I cannot select the arrival date I want - what's wrong?

When you enter dates to make a reservation, only valid arrival dates are displayed. Reservations are available on a 4-month rolling window so the latest arrival date is 4 months from the current date. The dates available in the date selection calendar and drop down boxes will be limited to dates within the reservation window. The available dates are also limited by the reservable period for the park. This means that once you have selected a park you will only be presented with dates that are valid for that park. Reservations for some parks must be made at least 2 days in advance of arrival.

What is a FCFS - Park Use and can I reserve it?

"FCFS - Park Use" sites in campgrounds are campsites that are managed at the park and are not part of the reservation service. These sites are shown on campground maps but availability information cannot be shown. These sites are generally allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis and cannot be reserved. You must contact the park directly if you want availability information for FCFS Park-Use sites.

I cannot select the arrival date I want for Bowron Lake - what's wrong?

When you enter dates to make a reservation, only valid arrival dates are displayed. Reservations are available for the following season beginning October 1. The dates available in the date selection calendar and drop down boxes will be limited to dates within the reservation window. The available dates are also limited by the reservable period for the park. This means that once you have selected a park you will only be shown dates that are valid for that park. Reservations for some parks must be made at least 2 days in advance of arrival.

What are quick dates?

Quick dates are commonly selected date ranges. The list will include the next couple of weekends, and holiday weekends. You don't have to use the quick dates to select an arrival date, you can use the drop down boxes or calendar to enter any valid date within the reservation window.

What is the shopping cart?

The shopping cart allows you to add multiple bookings into your cart and hold them until each booking has been completed and paid (status of Paid-Completed). Unpaid bookings will be lost if you log out or your session is inactive for more than 15 minutes

How do I use the shopping cart?

On the home page, begin by filling out steps 1 to 5 and reserve. The next page will display contents of the shopping cart and allow you to add another site by clicking on the 'Add Another Booking' link. You may continue to add bookings up to the maximum number allowed. You may also change and delete bookings, or start payment on any booking. Once you have completed a successful payment transaction on the first booking, you must return to the shopping cart and pay for each booking until all bookings have been completed. To access all unpaid bookings, select the link ‘View Cart’ located on the right of the top menu bar.

Do all bookings in the shopping cart have to be in the same park with the same arrival and departure dates?

No. Each booking can be from different parks, campgrounds, and have different arrival and departure dates. When adding additional bookings, change the park and camping dates on the home page. This is ideal for campers that are planning on visiting several different parks during their vacation.

Can I pay for all bookings in the shopping cart together?

No. There may be individual camping restrictions that apply to specific sites and must be confirmed or acknowledged for each booking. Payment for each booking must be processed and paid separately, however the same credit card can be used each time. Each booking will have its own transaction reference number, unique booking number and confirmation letter.

What is a double-site?

A double-site is intended so family and friends can camp together. This means a double-site is specifically designed to allow two camping parties to camp in close proximity to one another. A double site still provides the same facilities as individual sites but most double sites share a driveway and are more open to one another than regular single campsites.

Can I book half a double site?

Double sites on the Discover Camping reservation system must be booked together until 1 week of the arrival date. If at that time, the inventory still remains available, the two sites will be sold individually.

Why can't I book half a double site, but I could last year?

For 2013 BC Parks changed the policy to ensure that the policy for all of the double-sites on the reservation system is consistent.

What is the policy for booking double-sites?

Double sites on the Discover Camping reservation system must be booked together until 1 week of the arrival date. If at that time, the inventory still remains available, the two sites will be sold individually.

How much is the transaction (reservation) charge for booking double sites?

Only one transaction charge applies for a double-site when it is sold together, but separate transaction charges apply when the sites are sold individually (within 1 week of the arrival date). User (camping) fees still apply to each side of the double site, regardless of whether it is sold together or separately.

Why did BC Parks change their policy on double sites?

Previously, all double sites on the reservation system had to be booked together. In 2011, BC Parks allowed parks to sell their double sites individually. This first year, caused some confusion and generated complaints. In 2012, more parks (for a total of 18/94 parks on the reservation system) sold double-sites separately. BC Parks and Discover Camping received more complaints and refund requests because some people did not understand that double sites are meant for two parties camping together and were unhappy that they offer less privacy than traditional BC Parks campsites.

I need a site with electrical hookups. How can I tell which sites have services?

There are some optional filters available at the bottom of the reservation preferences panel on the left that allow you to include or exclude sites based on certain criteria. If you want a site with electricity you can choose to Include the Electrical option. The maps, lists and grids will then show in green only the sites that meet your preferences.

What's the fastest way to find a site?

There are several tools available to help you find a site. The fastest way is to fill out the information you know - your reservation type, preferred dates etc. - then click on one of the Find a Site view buttons. You can view availability on a Map, in a List or on a Calendar - and toggle between these views - until you find the perfect site. Once you've started your search you can also use additional search preferences (click on the arrow button beside More Search Preferences). This allows you to filter the results to show only certain site types or to exclude certain site types.

I have a favourite site. How can I tell when it is available?

This website provides several tools to help you with your stay. If you are looking for availability for your favourite site, the easiest way is to select the park and campground in from the drop down menus and then click on the On a Calendar view button. If you have a favourite camping area, the Calendar View will show you which site availability for the selected area. Selecting an area and clicking on your favourite site will give you the option of viewing a Site Calendar for the site. The Site Calendar will show you when the site is available and allow you to scroll the dates to see the whole season at a glance.

All sites on the grid show restrictions. What does this mean?

A site that shows as yellow on the map, calendar or list means that the site is available for the dates you have selected, but that the site does not meet your current reservation preferences. If you click on the site details it will show you what is restricting the site. It is usually the reservation type, equipment size or party size. If you have used the More Search Preferences, these options will also affect the site restrictions.

I made a reservation through the call centre. How do I view it online?

If you already have an online account, you should be able to see your reservation by logging in to the My Reservations section of the website. If you don't have an online account, you can create one - click on My Reservations and follow the links for New Customers. If you use the same name and address information you used when you made your reservation, you should then be able to access your reservations online. If you still cannot see your bookings, the call centre booking may have been made under a different user account. You will have to call the call centre to confirm or change the booking. If you don't have an account you can also find an individual booking using the Look Up A Reservation tool on the MyReservations page booking. You will need to know the reference number, the arrival date and the permit holder's last name.

How do I cancel my reservation?

You have to log in or look up a booking to cancel a booking. Click the My Reservations option and use the Look Up A Reservation tool or log in using your email address and password. You can then select the booking you want to change or cancel by clicking on the Details link. You will then see the details of the booking and have the option to change, cancel or print the reservation using the quick links on the right.

What is the cancel and change policy for double-sites?

Double-sites sold together must be cancelled or changed together. One transaction fee is applied for cancellations or changes made more than one week prior to the arrival date. Cancellations or changes made within one week of arrival date, penalties will be applied to each side of the double-site. Double-sites sold separately may be cancelled or changed separately. Cancel and penalty fees will be applied to each side of the double-site. User (camping) fees still apply to each side of the double-site, regardless of whether it is sold together or separately.
